they aren't games, so not possible. launch through normal steam interface

That's pretty weak, especially when you're using a SteamMachine...

So,
You were wrong. If I look in the "Installed" Section of Big Picture, I at least see most of my apps. Haven't checked if I see all. Where did you get your facts from?

installed is separate from software. there's no way to view only software menu, if you have over 500 games installed for example, you won't see the software

I understand what you mean. I just couldn't see any of my software before, so I thought that I could not see any software ever.
