Source Games freeze PC [Fixed] Solution in post
EDIT: I found the solution I had to do chkdsk /f /r in an admin command prompt basically what that will scan all your files on your HDD and find all the errors and correct them. Warning though it will take a few hours for it to finish so I would recomend doing it before going to bed

This started happening only about a month ago and I was assuming it would be fixed after a week or two but it sadly has not been fixed. This happens with CS:GO, TF2, etc. I have reinstalled the games, updated drivers, defragmented my HDD and even after all of that it still happens. I also have the newest bios for my motherboard. My cpu and gpu temps are well in the safe range when playing and this only happens with source engine games.

Any help will be appreciated. All symptoms and pc specs are listed below. :steamhappy:

----------------------
The symptoms
----------------------
~30 minutes of play the game it will randomly stutter FPS and the audio will loop when it happens
Only way to close the game once it starts stuttering is to force shut down my pc

-----------------------------------------------
PC Specs
-----------------------------------------------
Custom Built
GPU: GTX 1060 6GB PNY
CPU: I5 6600
16 GB of Ram
Motherboard: ASUS Z170-A

Check your SATA and IDE controller drivers to make sure they aren't causing your drives to act up. (Windows System Logs should be able to show this by reporting drive or controller issues). I've been having similar issues with my system, and it turns out this is why. I had to revert back to the generic Intel controller drivers because the ones made for my system don't like to play friendly with some Windows 10 Insider Preview builds. (Especially if I add or remove a drive to the configuration at any point).

If those controllers crash, it will break communications with your drives, and you can very-well experience these problems. Be sure to check the SMART status on your drives themselves too. If one is failing, it can cause all sorts of issues. Even if it isn't the one your game or Operating System are running on.

Thank you for the reply but my HDD is correctly connected and I am normal windows 10 home (probably should have mentioned that in the post) I don't have any other drives installed and I do not have another HDD plugged in to my pc.

Definitely check your controller drivers then and see if they are causing random crashes. (The game may trigger them). This was the issue I was having, as I mentioned. It only happened to me in Windows 10.
