If my CPU is trash, can the GPU compensate for that?
I have a laptop that was a good gaming laptop around 2013-14, now I want to buy GTX970 and connect it so I can play the newer games, will the new GPU be limited by the CPU?

Obviously yes. Mobile versions of same hardware are also a lot weaker. A desktop i3 can beat a laptop i5 in performance.

Also normally you cannot upgrade the GPU of alaptop. You can use a external adaptor by some models but its a way too expensive solution.
Your laptop would need a Thunderbolt port, ideally Thunderbolt 2.0 or later, to be able to use an external GPU.

True, but I am talking about a PC CPU, with external adapters, I saw them being sold for as low as 25$

Can you explain a bit more? If I dont have said port, Is there ANY alternative? getting a new pc is way too expensive.
Can you take a look at those specs and tell me what would a be a way that I can play some 2015-16 games?

Link it. Also it wont play any of them
No Thunderbolt, no egpu. Plus those setups cost more than most graphics cards themselves.

If a new pc is too expensive then you definitely can't afford a thunderbolt setup anyways.

Your CPU and GPU perform different tasks, so no, a fast GPU cannot make up for a slow CPU, you'll just end up with a CPU bottleneck.
