Bought a steam key, activated it and now it's completely gone.
I bought a key of the game "Europa Universalis 4" on g2a (<-- code website, gets removed) for a friend. I already have the game myself.

I got the code and activated it myself, thinking I could gift it after. Steam said it was a valid code for Europa Universalis 4, but absolutely nothing changed. I didn't get the game in my inventory or library, didn't get any email for getting a new code.

When my friend tries to activate it now, it says "key has already been activated", but for me absolutely nothing changed, no game, no money, no email nothing.

Steam can't just be like "you already have it, so let's make it unvalid and throw it in the trash can" right? Thats what it seems to be to me now :(

it is permanently tied to your account. the key is forever used.

it will say that only for a game purchased in the steam store. keys dont have that message.

You can't "store" a key bought outside of steam. Once you input it, it is gone. You should have given the key directly to your friend via chat.
If the code came with DLC that you don't own, it will have used the code and activated the DLC.
I had no single DLC, the key version didn't either.
But this really means they just throw it away?
That makes me very disappointed in valve, it literally theft...

Generally no, if the code was for exactly the same version of the game you own, you should have received an error saying that you already own the game. So the code was either for a slightly different version of the game, or something has gone wrong.
Well, the code is not valid anymore since it has been activated, but I didn't receive anything :(

It's a key from a shady site...of course it went wrong.

No, it's not.
They literally destroy my valid key
no need to edit your op. we know the site and why it is filtered and dont try to bypass the filter.

next time dont use shady key sites that sell illegal obtained keys.

Go back to the shady cd-key site that you bought it from

They don't care though because they deal in stolen goods and don't care about you once they have your money

This is like blaming Sony because the tv you bought from the drug dealing hobo behind the BestBuy wasn't a real Sony tv
