Cant Rename Folders
Hi im having this annoying issue where something on my PC wont let me edit steam\steamapps\common game folder names. It says "The action cant be completed because the folder or file is open in another program", buts its not open anywhere else i have checked task manager about 10 times now. I figure its steam because its only in that file location not anywhere else. Also note my steam installation is not in the C drive. Thnaks for any help.

Don't rename folder's there. If you want to make sure Steam can't find its games, uninstalling them is a better idea.

Those folders are made and maintained by steam and probably updated everytime you play one of those games. You cannot rename them without corrupting your steam library. It will probably fail to launch installed games or it might just make another folder with the original name again.

No idea what you kean. Bit if you want to knock yourself out, I won't stand in your way. Download a nice little program called Unlocker, it can rename files in use by ripping them away from tue process using them.

I also suddenly have this problem on my main pc. I cannot rename any folders in steam. Which I used to due all the time (And still do on a few of my other PC's) This is screwy and I don't know how to correct it. I am not interested in using any 3rd-party software either.

Hello All I have fixed my own problem and ill walk you through it! goto Run and type 'MSCONFIG' click on the Services tab at the top. Check the 'Hide all Microsoft Services' box. and disable all (for now), click apply and ok (Restart if it asks you) Now after disableing that now go into 'Task Manager - Startup' and disable all, click ok. Restart again (Or do the Task manager steps first). Now after restart you should be able to rename your steam folders again. Now you can go back into task manager and MSCONFIG and enable what you need, as the issue is most likely a software conflict.
