Steam always tries to empty my steam wallet even if i select other payment methods
this is really annoying, whenever i buy something steam always wants to empty my steam wallet. but if i then later want to buy something, even a trading card for 0.X USD, i need to add credit to my steam wallet again.

is there a setting to NOT use my steam wallet funds EVER when i buy something, unless I explicity select it?

right now i select PAY WITH CREDIT CARD, but it actually uses my steam wallet and then books only the remaining credit from my credit card. I bought a game for 5 USD, and it took 4.5 USD out of my steam wallet and booked 0.5 USD from my credit card.

thats just plain stupid...
why is steam doing that?

my bad, let me make it more clear

4 USD in steam wallet
buy 5 USD game
payment: select credit card
steam uses 4 USD steam wallet credit and takes 1 USD from credit card...

but i selected credit card for payment method...
it shouldnt use any steam wallet credit...

Sadly, Steam uses Steam wallet as the primary payment method by default. You have to go back to select a different payment method as primary.
I don't know why Valve is doing that.

do you know if there is a way to change it?
so its NOT always using it as the default payment method?
the only setting i can find regarding default payment method is already set to my credit card... but steam STILL uses the steam wallet FIRST...

its really annoying having to remove the steam wallet as the primary payment option every single time in checkout when i buy something... :/

So far i haven't found a way. You have to go back on every purchase to select a different primary payment method.

All market transactions required using funds from your wallet.

For store purchases, wallet is the default method.

When making store purchases, you CAN select a different payment method on the final confirmation screen (i.e. to credit card) to keep all your wallet funds.
