Can I delete a game folder on my laptop without it being removed from my PC?
There are already a bunch of things like this but I have one slightly different question. If I go into Steamapps/Common and delete the whole TF2 folder (it takes up 30 gigs), will it also be deleted from my Steam library?
Or will it only be deleted on my laptop and not my desktop PC?
Or should I just Delete Local Content to get rid of the 30 gigs?
Or, if I do press Delete Local Content, does that delete the folder entirely from that computer only?

Team Fortress 2 is a free to play games. Free to play games do not stay in your library when uninstalled.

Okay, but if I press Delete Local Content it'll only be uninstalled on the laptop?
And I can reinstall it on my main computer with all my items, etc. without it being reinstalled on my macbook?

You can install Team Fortress 2 on any number of computers, and your progress will carry over. Your Team Fortress 2 items, achievements, etc. are stored server-side, and so not affected by uninstalling. However no matter how you delete the game from your hard drive, whether that be deleting the folder or using the "Delete Local Content" feature, free games will disappear from your library when the files disappear. You can reinstall the game from the store page.

Okay, so I can uninstall the game from my laptop but it's gone from my computer. Will it reinstall on my laptop with all 30 gigs of data when I reinstall it on my PC?

Uninstalling on one computer (or laptop) will not affect the files on another computer (or laptop). Same goes for installing, the files will only be downloaded on the computer (or laptop) you choose to install them on.

Okay. And what about a paid game; Garry's Mod to be specific? I need to free up space on my mac to make it a little faster and GMod takes up ~20 gigs, if I uninstall it there will it remain on my PC's library or, as before, will it be gone from my PC too? I'll assume again that GMod files will only be on my PC if I redownload it.

It's the same for free to play or paid titles.

I may have explained poorly before, but uninstalling a game from one computer will never remove the files from another computer. On whichever computer you are using, a free to play game will not be shown in your library if the files do not exist on that computer.

Paid games will always show in your library, whether installed or not.

So if I have the TF2 files on my PC but not my Mac, TF2 will appear as installed on my PC but not on my Mac, in short?

Yes, that's correct.

Okay, so to finish this thread once and for all, all I need to do is delete the TF2 and GMod folders on my mac and presto, more space and they're still on my PC?
