Uninstall & Reinstall steam problems
Hi all, I've uninstalled steam client using Control Panel without moving any folder. It deleted a lot of things (games included) , however, some folders remained under C:/Program Files/Steam.

When I tried to reinstall steam, it required a clean folder, so I tried to delete the remaining files & folders, but it seems that I don't have permission even to read the files. I've tried to take ownership but it does not work. I can't even see who is the owner of folders when going to security tab...

I've gave up and just installed on "Steam1" folder, but I still want to know how to remove the remaining files. In my opinion , the uninstaler should do this for me, not requiring any further action from users to do it...

the uninstaller CAN'T Do it for you because you didn't run it as administrator. you need your UAC settings off and do things as administrator.
So, I'm supposed to run as admin on steam folder , instead of removing from control panel. I think that I've got it by the hard way. However, I did a test: I've disabled the UAC , reinstalled one game and uninstalled steam. The folder got removed without any problems. Still, the old folder Steam cannot get deleted even with UAC disabled.

because you should have run the uninstaller itself, as administrator, control panel does not do this. regular uninstallers do not have permissions to delete folders from program files. also that means your account does not have full admin privileges.

Hmm, actually it always aks before openning a game and I always just click yes, so I never had any problems with the games. The next question is: What to do now xD

no Papuh, is not this problem. This is for uninstalling Steam

create an administrator account... and again, turn uac all the way off (only for experienced users, honestly, in your case, just leave the folder there... because turning UAC off opens room to all sorts of exploits unless you're running MBAM, a good av, etc all on live, so the premium versions, mode.)

Or a better option, don't install Steam to program files.

C:\Games\Steam\ or just C:\Steam\ or anywhere else.
