You must have an Internet connection the first time you launch a game that requires Steam, to validate your license for the game.
A check of your profile reveals you have played the game before. If you are using a new PC, the above still applies; each new computer running the game must connect to Steam once to validate the license.
How far could it possibly be?
I had the game the first day it came out
It's the same computer I've always played it on. It just randomly said it the other day.
