If you're in mac then idk...
I'm sure you already tried in-game options, so try to search for the game forums, in this case Borderlands Forums and Rogueland Forums and maybe post a thread asking about this and the creaters or someone else might help you.
I sadly never played Rogueland and I only played Borderlands 2 on console so I don't know really how to fix this.

Reboot.
Make sure all unnecessary programs are off. No iTunes, no Pandora/Spotify, etc. I'd also make sure unnecessary programs don't auto start when you reboot.
Check the sound. If no go...
Reboot.
Check the sound. If no go...
Install newest drivers for sound AND video card.
Reboot.
Check the sound. If no go, I'd probably check the bios version for updates and motherboard drivers as well.
At that point you've eliminated most of the potential issues and you can circle back around to the options in game or Steam or audio configuration.
I know it can be ultra frustrating. Just take it slow and be methodical.
