Retail keys and extra copies
I purchased the Tabletop Simulator 4 Pack from bundlestars.com expecting that I was going to receive four steam keys that I would give to 4 friends since I already own Tabletop Simulator. Instead I received one steam key which, as I understand it now, would install one copy for me and give me three extra copies to gift. I haven't used the key yet, but I'm wondering about the best way to go about this. If I use it, what will happen? Will I get three copies and lose the fourth because I already have it, or will I get four copies to gift? Should I instead give the 4 pack key to one of the friends, have him use it and give the other three copies to the others? The steam support pages don't list what happens with 4 pack versions of games you already own from third-party sources. It looks like I wouldn't have even been able to buy this from the steam client since I already have it.

give it to the first friend and have them give u the other 3 copies. shouldn't really be buying bundles of games you already own, steam doesn't want resale of bundles/etc.

Well I bought them to be gifts, I would have bought it straight from steam if I had been able.

You should give the key to a friend and ask him to give the rest of the licenses to other friends.

You wont be able to activate that key on your account at all. 4 packs only work when you dont own the game. Thats why you only can buy them if you dont own the game.
Only thing you can do is give the key to a friend who does not have the game. He can activate it and give the other copies to the desired users.

you can't buy them through steam because it's not steam's intended purpose to resell/trade game gifts, you buy it as the initial purchase only, not afterwards.

give the key to your friend and have him gift you the 3 or send them off to the people you want.

If you own the game you can't redeem the 4-pack key. You'll just get a message saying that you already own the game. Give the key to a trusted friend and ask for the 3 gifts back.

Why are you convinced that I'm trying to resell them or trade them?

Anyway, thank you to the rest of you for confirming my suspicion. I'll just give it to one of them and have him send the others out to the other three.

i'm saying, steam has this system in place because people abuse the system, and have for many years until they fixed it like this. new games are not even allowed to have bundles, only old games.
