How to show playing non-steam game in steam.
Some games start another executable, meaning Steam will briefly show the game then it will close and show as if you are not playing anything. To get around this, make a bat file like the following:

File: "game.bat"
--------------------------------
"C:\path-to-game\game.exe"
set /p name= Press enter to close.
--------------------------------

This will launch the game and then wait for input. The only drawback is that it will continue to show you are playing the game until you press an enter/return key. You can customize the non-steam game by right-clicking it in Steam and selecting properties.

If you don't already know, you can add the bat file (or non-steam .exe) to Steam by selecting "Games" from Steam menu (Steam/View/Friends/Games/Help) and selecting the last entry, "Add a Non-Steam Game to My Library...".

Enjoy!

Works thanks, you can also use RBTray to minimise the CMD window to system tray to get it out of the way.

This thread was quite old before the recent post, so we're locking it to prevent confusion.
