Moving Documents folder on Windows 10
I believe there is a way to move your documents folder on Windows. I want to put this on another HDD as my C:/ is an SSD which I only want to keep Windows on. With my documents filling it up, if I move it to my G:/ drive and moved the files over, how does this affect games?

It was my thinking that "Documents" folder is part of the OS so it will only be to the disk with the OS on. Can you not just save your documents to the other drive i.e. if you have say 20 word docs just cut and paste them to the other drive?

SSD is a lot more effective at reading data than a mechanical drive, even if you ran your SSD with your OS on and all your documents it wont have any effect on performance as such.

If it was me i and i have a mechanical and a SSD i would load my OS on my mechanical and my games on my SSD. Although now SSD's are so affordable there isn't much reason not to get one.

You can point the "My" folders to a different location.

On the Drive you want the files on

Create a New Folder and Name it 'MyDocuments2' or anything else you want.

Now right click on the original Documents folder > Properties > Location > add the new location, D:\MyDocuments2

Can't remember if it copies current files over to new location once done or if it just makes the new files stored at new location. SoFirst I'd recommend copying the 'Documents' folder to a tempDocument folder on your desktop. Do the procedure above, Delete Documents folder contents and then move/cut/copy files from the tempDocument folder on you desktop.

Now all current and future files saved in Documents will be at the new location.

If you use the proper way, then the games won't be affected.

As for games, what I sugegsted in post #2 won't affect games as its a simple point/redirection.

For new games I'd recommend changing your Steam library location.
Steam > Downloads > Steam Library Folders

All new downloads will go to where ever you want. Not sure what would happen if you cut and paste you current game folder into the new location. Try it with 1 game first, Cut it and paste in new library location, then run game. If if loads and play ok repeat but with all games if not cut and paste it back to original location.
My steam drive is in G:/ however the documents for some games are in C:/

Use the redirect method in post #2 I've had all default documents, music, pictures and videos folders redirected to my d:\documents, d:\music and so on for years without any problems, including game saves and even a few games.
