Let me help you with the Firewall Problem!

I had the same problem whenever I connect my steam it always says that "No connection check your net" but my net work was working fine. Do you have the same problem that you turn off the firewall before starting steam? then all you have to do is just to reset firewall settings but before you do that you have to do the Security and update check some time update cause problems.
To Troubleshoot following are the steps (I'm using Win-10/you can search this also on web which is suitable to your Operating System)

(a) Type in search "Troubleshooting".
(b) Click on Troubleshooting then you will be directed to the troubleshooting control panel
(c) On the Heading "System and Security" there would be sub link "Fix Problems with windows update".

Following are the steps to reset Firewall this is for win 10. (you can search this also on web which is suitable to your Operating System)

(a) Type Search "Firewall control Panel"
(b) Click on it - you will be directed to its Control panel.
(c) On the left tabs you will see that third last or sec Last tab is "Reset firewall"
(d) Just click on it and Reset :)

You should make settings, and not disabling a firewall.

Usually windows firewall would not prevent you from accessing things.
