Installation when install folder already exists
I've been struggling to move games around my hard drives as I'd just recently put in a new M.2 SSD for my PC. I've run into a few issues where I couldn't "reinstall" the games due to there not being any space to do so -- but the problem is that the insallation folder for the game(s) it/themself(lves) are already there. When I try to reinstall them, I get the error message saying that I can't install the game because there isn't enough space.

Please consider for a future update (that isn't a beta release) moving to prompt to during the actual installation process if it cannot find the folder, and there legitimately is not enough space for the installation.

the folder has nothing to do with it, it all have to do with your drive and how much space you have left on it, if there're is not the space on it then you can't install that game on that drive. most people buy a different drive to put all games on and move them to that drive same with steam and any other game hub you use.

Right, but I'm not referring to that. Let's say the game is already installed, and I simply moved the installation folder to free up space on one of my drives. Because Steam currently does not have a feature that moves my installation folders for me (that isn't in beta) I've found it to be way easier to uninstall and reinstall the game from my library. Usually, the installation process finds the folder and either finishes installation instantly or it downloads a few files in case there were any issues with moving the folder.

The problem that I'm having is that it doesn't look for the files first, it just tells me that the directory I wanted to install the game to is full.

But Steam does have a way to move games between libraries... and it's been out of beta for at least a month.

It's in the properties under local files.

most people will install steam right on the drive they are going to have the files on anyways. same with any other. backing them up will make a copy of the files it wont install them in that spot. from what i can tell but you can do it, back up of all your games in to a folder on to that drive that you want it on to then go install steam on that drive. but you have to uninstall steam on your C drive if thats where it is. then you can put all you files back in to "Dive Letter":\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\ in another folder when you have backed up your games copy all APPMANIFEST'S that is in C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps to that same drive your installing steam to as a backup so that way when you install steam again your games will be on your library as installed. and your backed up game files go in there Commom folder once you have installed steam on other drive. This Would be the eastest way to move all your games but moving you Game files will take time to move back in to the common folder as don't make a copy back in to Common as this will take three times as long to do. Moving files will always be Faster than Copying files to them folders. just make sur you change the spot where you backup your games at when you do back them up.

I had an issue where I moved game install location from my C drive to my D drive, but wanted to move it back. Problem was that "game already installed on C drive" so I wasn't able to move the install location back the C drive where the game was already installed, forcing my game to launch from the D drive which was bad.

I uninstalled the game from the C drive, then moved install location from the D drive to the C drive. This is what I wanted to avoid, hoping I could just uninstall from the D drive and set the launch location from the C drive where it was already installed. Can't have everything you want.
