you have to make some room for it or uninstall and download the game again.
And idiotic. I cannot play 3 games right now because they decided to "update" which is usually completely useless as most updates are for corner case bugs which I will rarely face.
Product managers at steam need to be fired.
Library > Roght click game > Properties > Local files > Move install Folder > Select folder on D drive
If you just created a folder on D first you will need to add it to the Library before it will appear as a Move folder option.
Steam > Settings > Downloads Steam Library Folders > Add Library Folder
Make sure you don't change the Default unless you want it downloading to the new location by default.
Create a hard link to a disk that would fit the game+update. copy the game over, update the game, then use steam client to move it to a new destination.
Note: Don't start creating hard links all over your system, it will become a nightmare to manage.
1. Exit Steam Client
2. mkdir e:\steam-temp
3. Copy steamapps folder and all contents to e:\steam-temp
4. rename steamapps steamapps-BAK
5. junction64 steamapps e:\steam-temp\steamapps
6. start Steam Client
7. Resume update.
8. Play game.
9. Stop Steam Client
10. delete steamapps-BAK
You have 2 options at this point.
Option A: Delete the junction and move e:\steam-temp\steamapps back to original place and risk this happening again.
Option B: From the Steam Client Game Properties / Local Files / Move the game to a new location
Moving games along with the [incomplere] update packages is not a difficult feature to implement. It's just that Valve goes by "Valve time" when it comes to revisiting the systems they implemented to maintain them if you can call that "maintaining" and finish implementing features they simply forgot to implement the last time.
P.S.
Take a look at http://steamcommunity.com/groups/SteamClientBeta/discussions/1/828938532539142969/?tscn=1501705835
It took Valve 13 years to get THIS ridiculously simple thing done.
It would appear some games won't even let you do that. If they're already installed, no "Move Install Folder" button exists, and if you try to uninstall and then re-install them, they don't offer you the option of an installation directory. If you try to update them and so on, they fail with a "Disk Write Error". In my case, I intentionally did not install Steam into Program Files because I kept my Steam collection on a separate drive. But now, three games simply refuse to install because of this:
- Mr. Robot
- Zombie Driver (the original, the HD version doesn't have this problem)
- Zero Gear
I've tried restarting Steam and so on, but there appears to be no option to change the install of these games.
UPDATE:
After some digging, I found a solution to my problem. If you go to Download Settings and clear the download cache (CAUTION: Requires a re-login), then one can uninstall the stubborn games, then re-install them and they will present an installation directory option. If you have a game you just can't seem to relocate, try this.
