Source SDK Base 2006/2007 - How do I know whether I need them?
I have both those "tools" installed. Info on the web is mixed, but allegedly they don't need to be installed for playing games developed on it, but for mods.
How do I figure out whether I currently need them, which mods actually use it? If I don't absolutely need them, I'd like to uninstall them. (They use up 8.5 GB.)

Unless you plan on developing, there is no reason to have them installed.

Are you aware Source SDK and Source SDK Base are different things?

If you're not using a game that requires the base (such as Black Mesa Source[www.blackmesasource.com] when downloaded as a mod) then you shouldn't need them installed at all.

Yeah, the closest to helpful info I could find is
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Source_engine_mods
No claim of completeness, no mention of whether merely use or dependency, not mention of version.
Steam lists the last-played for tools, and I could figure out that the 2007 version was last played the same day I launched Portal 2. So although Portal 2 is a full game, it suggests it might nevertheless require the 2007 SDK Base.
