Playing matches (normal/ranked) will upgrade your Experience Trophy which grants Levels, as it get leveled up.
In addition every match will grant you 10 Trophy Points
Completing the All-Hero-Challenge will grant you Trophy Points, you can complete it multiple times
2. Pay.
In DotA 2 there are many events, i. e. The International, The Shanghai Major, The Summit, etc.
Buying virtual Tickets and/or Compendiums for these events will most likely grant you Trophy Points and/or Levels
For example: If you buy the current Winter Battle Pass, you will earn 1 Level + you earn extra Trophy Points and/or Levels, when you complete Challenges, etc.
Still it's pretty hard to reach Profile Level 50. For example: I am Level 69, still I have played over 1500 hours.
And a tip: Increasing your profile level wont match you with more skilled players! The game matches you with players of your skill. If you use DOTABUFF (its nice!) you can check your skill level. Unranked as well as ranked matches are marked with "Normal Skill", "High Skill" and "Very High Skill".
And a second tip: If you want to play ranked matches: You don't need Profile Level 50! You need Experience Trophy Level 50 which you can upgrade by playing.
