Extortion, death threat etc - support do nothing.
Hello.

Someone contacted me on Steam asking me if I could give him my Steam ID - I said no.
He then said that he was going to ruin my life if I did not give it to him and at the same time, he posted a pastebin link with my old passwords, contact details etc.
I basically told him to GTFO. He then said "dead" and then removed me from friends.

I contacted Steam support about the matter and it took like three weeks to get a response about it and they only told me to go to his profile and report him through there (what a joke!).
I did and several weeks have passed and he is still roaming free harassing users, trying to extort other users just to get Steam IDs and sell them - not to mention, probably making death threats.

I know the guy won't come to my house but seriously Steam? Someone trying to do extortion through your service AND making death threats and you do NOTHING about it? Really?
Shouldn't this be seen as a serious violation to your terms of agreement?

I feel that Steam support disrespects me. I've been a loyal customer for over 15 years (11 years on this account since I lost the other one). I've bought a loooot of games for a loooot of money, so please at least have the courtesy to look after users who have been loyal to you and feeding you every day and take threats seriously.

Shame on you support.

Contact law enforcement.

I should but I wont since the user is from an entirely different country.

Valve is obligated to deal with these pesky users so I assumed they would actually take the matter serious but they don't.

They do. Taking matters seriously includes using the proper channels. And the proper channel for your case is the report function. Do you take the matter seriously?
Ice_ Feb 21, 2017 @ 1:42am
I have and they have not done anything so that proper channel is clearly not working.

you can't have been a loyal customer to steam for 15 years, only been around 13 years, WON is another thing entirely.

I'm pretty sure I used Steam 2000/2001.

First, that takes time. Second, how do you know?

Steam only exists since 2003.
As Reboot has said you need to use the proper channels, it also takes time steam support to process these sort of things.

If you're really serious about it, what I would do is contact the people he is friends with, the people he has newly added etc and make sure they understand (use proof) that this person is making threats. Be calm, collected and logical so that you don't cause unnecessary alarm. That way at least they are less likely to become victims, and/or use their own judgement of the situation with more insight thanks to you. Have you reported his profile yet? Remember to add links to the proof you have as well.

Steam support is spread thin and even though they added more support staff according to Valve, it really hasn't got much better in my experience either. In fact, for me only by chance it has become worse though refunds are easier. Remember they're just people at a desk. They don't have a personal desire to disrespect you since they don't even know you. But I have to agree that Steam's customer service has always been far from being awesome. They have a system in place that makes it difficult to ban people with singular offenses like one bad post etc unless a heck ton of people report that one post or that one profile. But even if they were to ban him from community forums etc, what would it really solve? He could easily make a new profile and keep doing what he is doing.

"Loyalty" is irrelevant (and also a relative concept) to your issue though I understand it makes you upset to feel that they aren't taking that into consideration when replying to support queries.

Like ReBoot says you need to contact the police if you ever feel it is going too far. Keep documenting everything and anything you feel is relevant so you can hand it over to the police. If they feel the need to step in, they will contact Valve. I don't know where you are but many countries have cyber crime divisions available.

Wow you are right. I was pretty confident it was 2001 since I was a student in a dorm back then. Felt like I was there for like 1 year.

Oh I know they are people alright. I respect that.
Thank you for your long answer!

He had most likely downloaded a hacked database from some site. Found my email address, googled it and found ny nickname etc.

Just curious, but when you reported him as suggested by the support, through his profile, did you provide any proof? Or did you just explain it in a similar manner to how you explained it to us?
