Selected drive already has a library folder
Hello. I just bought Final Fantasy VII via Steam to try out EQAliza's mod (called "Tifa's Final Heaven). In order to have the mod working, though, the maker recommends NOT to install FFVII inside ProgramFiles (x86) folder, which is Steam's default folder.
I proceeded to try to add a new library folder - where I want to install this single game - in the settings menu, but when I try to do so steam just says "Selected drive already has a library folder. Steam will manage multiple games install in a single folder for you" and thus doesn't let me create a second library folder.
What do I do? My PC only has one drive root.

latest steam update change library limits: using standart functional you can create only one library per logical disk(partition)
you may try libraryfolders.vdf - but it unofficial and unsupported

Is it really the only option I have?

you can map any folder by using \\localhost\c$\[insert rest of the path from C:\ here] to another letter drive and use it that way.

This is quiet a retarded limitation to impliment. Some people might want to mount secondary drives as folders in the C-drive.. I cannot see any logic behind this limitation.

This is so dumb. I purposely had another folder on my c drive (ssd) so whenever I reloaded windows or reinstalled steam, I could just point to this folder and instantly install my games when I pointed to this folder. Now I have to put all games in the default folder and manually click and install each one. Ridiculous.

Sup, boys.
I see you've brought back to life this formerly-dead thread.
Anyway, I've solved the problem months ago: just change the default installation folder by moving certain specific files (I can't recall which ones exactly right now, but you can find the names by googling) into a new folder. You don't have to reinstall anything and it only takes a few minutes.

I was able to add that library folder in the libraryfolders.vdf. The only problem is I still have to manually click on each game and install them, like 30 games. Before when I could add the directory through the client, each game would automatically be installed.

I occasionally play classic games. I have begrudgingly installed, and removed, and reinstalled steam many times over the years, as they grew into what they are now. It isn't necessary to have .7GB of bloatware to launch a 50 Meg game.

I have a manual, custom directory structure I have been building since the early 90s, which has survived many dead hard drives, hardware upgrades, fires, etc.

Being required to manually lump all steam games into one directory is not only a damning limitation, but serves no purpose other than to convenience the folks writing the installers, to perpetuate "updates" which are, for most of the classic games on steam, completely irrelevant and obsolete.

Is it possible for me to have 2 different steam games, on the same drive (or partition) in two separate directories? If not, why not?

I don't like installing games into a set folder. This is stupid! I hope they fix this later on, I've just forked out $40 for a game and I expect more! I want to install to my own directories.

Have you made your library folder the default folder in Steam Settings ?

to fix this there is two steps 1st the two files that will have to be changed are config.vdf and libraryfolders.vdf. The issue is the fact that steam names the folder with the two backslashes.

config.vdf
"BaseInstallFolder_1" "C:\\Game Files\\Steam Games"
"BaseInstallFolder_2" "F:\\Game Files\\Steam Games"

libraryfolders.vdf
"LibraryFolders"
{
"TimeNextStatsReport" "**********"
"ContentStatsID" "**********"
"1" "C:\\Game Files\\Steam Games"
"2" "F:\\Game Files\\Steam Games"
}
