Game gift I bought on steam region locked to region I don't live in [HELP]

I recently decided to go through my humble keys I hadn't activated yet. One of the keys I activated is "ibb & obb - Best Friends Forever Double Pack" which unlocks the game and gives you a gift in your steam inventory.

My account is a Belgian account so I figured I would get a ibb & obb gift in my inventory that was region free OR at the least locked to Europe. However, it is locked to Hong Kong & Taiwan, since I am traveling here. This makes no sense to me since my account is not a Hong Kong account, what the fudge!

This makes this gift completely useless to me. Any help with this would be appreciated.

If the game is locked to Hong Kong & Taiwan and you're traveling there , you should be able to redeem the game when you're there.

Well, yes and no.

See, the double pack key I have gives you the game once in your library and then an extra copy as a steam gift in your inventory that you can give to a friend.

However, now I am stuck with a gift I can't give to my friend since, well, he doesn't live in HK, and I can't redeem it since I now already have the game. :s

Oh, my bad ~ didn't see the "gives you a gift in your steam inventory" part.

I'm not too sure if changing the download region helps out the case , but it's worth a shot I guess ?

Steam settings -> Downloads -> Download region

PS : Sorry if it doesn't solve your problem, this is the only solution I can think of. Unless, your friend does have to travel to HK to redeem the gift.

I tried that. Sadly it didn't help but I learned something new at least and will now make sure my dowload region is always set to my home country, no matter where I am.

Kinda sucks though, I doubt he'll be traveling to HK or Taiwan anytime soon :s
