is there any way to turn off auto update of all games at once?
i mean whole games in library. its too annoying to find 4-5 games starting updating when i launch steam. some of them are over 4 gb. my internet is slow and i cant play that game until its update is finished.

You need to select each game in your library and choose update at launch. This way they will only update when you start the game.

if you have all of them installed, yes.

and why?

you can set them to update before you launch them.

no.

every game upon launch will always check to see if it is updated. if not, it will update before launch.

What about those of us who don't want the game to update at all? For instance, the new super texture pack for Fallout 4, I don't want it, I can't use it with my video card without my game looking like junk, and yet I am forced to DL it because Steam says so. Even if I don't activate it, that's still 58GB of data on my system that does me no friggin' good whatsoever, and that I can't get rid of because Steam will just DL it for me again. WTH!!

I find it absurd that valve can talk about disliking the update process in the "walled garden" of consoles when they can't pass that level of control on to their own customers/platform. To be fair their complaint was that they couldn't get updates out in a timely fashion but the point of having things out of your control stands. If they really want to consider paid for mods again at a minimum they need to allow full control of when/if games update.

:angry_creep: :angry_creep: :angry_creep: ********** VIABLE SOLUTION HERE ********** :angry_creep: :angry_creep: :angry_creep:

I know this is a very old thread, but many may still find the information of use (since Steam still seems to lack this feature). I found a guide that indicates what to edit in order to manually switch this option outside of steam itself, and expanded on it here. I've tried not to lean too technical, so it's a little wordy. If anyone finds this and needs additional assistance, I'll be happy to provide it. Apologies if this reply breaks an old post rule or the like. On to the info...

Original source for the info

https://appuals.com/how-to-disable-steam-auto-updates/

Specifically, you will want to review the "Solution 4: Disabling Auto-update by editing Appmanifest" section. To summarize, you need to edit the appmanifest.acf files in the steamapps directory with a very minor change. Note that while I do also suggest using Notepad++ for manual editing, you can use an editor of your choice, as long as it respects the formatting of the text file (Windows Notepad WILL NOT SUFFICE).

Now you might say "but this means you have to open, edit, and save each file by hand, that's not everything!" And you would be correct. However, there are applications that will allow you do to find and replace across multiple files. Coincidentally, I happen to know of a good, FOSS (Free Open Source Software for those unfamiliar with the term) that will not only allow you to easily make the edits, but will also spit out the full command needed to do the edit from CLI. Meaning, you can make a quick batch file to easily to this for you with the click of a button.

Find and Replace Tool[github.com]

The application is pretty straight forward. Point it to your steamapps directory (for most, likely "C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps"). For the file mask, use "appmanifest*.acf" to search all the appmanifest files. Make sure to uncheck "Include sub-directories". For the Find field, I suggest opening one of the appmanifest files, locating the line in question, and copying it from there to ensure formatting (it may not be this picky, but hey, better than risking a mistake and screwing up your manifests). In the replace field, paste in the same as find, but change the "0" to "1".

At this point, I suggest clicking on the "Find Only" button. This will spit out a preview below, so you can verify that everything looks correct. If so, click "Replace" and wait a brief moment (or more, if you have hundreds of games installed), and presto, you're done.

As mentioned above, you can also create a batch file to do this. Click on the "Gen Replace Command Line" button. It will spit out the full command line, including full paths to the fnr app, in the results box. Throw that into a batch file, and you now have a single click to do it all.

Edit: made it easier to find, as people are going on about this solution being posted to an old, but previously unresolved, thread.

Edit 2: I sometimes get steam awards for this post, and I just got one today. This had me looking back, and I decided to add a couple more things.

Regarding making a batch file to do one click updates. You can do this same thing when using "Find Only" via a batch file, if you just want to take a look without making the edits. I do that sometimes, just to review.

Also, if you have more than one steam library, you can easily do all libraries from one batch file. Just copy and paste the command into the batch file, one time for each library. Then, edit each command, with one entry changed per library. I understand that may sound confusing, so I'm including my batch file below for reference. Again, this is ONLY FOR REFERENCE. Paths to your install of Find and Replace Tool and steam libraries will certainly be different, and need to be edited to match your system.

So you posted on a 30 month old topic because you see dead people?

No, I posted on a 30-month-old topic because it provided a solution to the question asked, where no solution had yet been posted. My apologies if that upsets your delicate sensibilities. :)

No, we love a steady steam of necro posting and excuses.

Apparently. I mean, you keep posting in this one with no contribution other than trying to belittle someone who posted valid info, so it appears you do love it.

Certainly, there's no way anyone could ever trying searching the help forums to find an answer to this previously unanswered question and be happy to actually find it. No way this could be a repository for information to help people.

Good thing I have an "excuse".

Thanks hadji, that's awesome.

Unlike some people who get butthurt by necroposting, as this is the first thread that comes up on google for this topic, you've done the right thing bud :)

yea it is dumb, as dumb as steam not having a time autolock on older threads if they dont want people with google finding a thread that have same problem as them

Since most necros are for off topic spam like this, they have every right to be unhappy about the necro.

People that cry about necro threads need therapy. Go whine at your boyfriends. This thread is useful and I appreciate that someone resurrected it to add a solution.
