Can you get banned for buying IG items by third party means like Paypal?

I've just learned that it's against the TOS to sell items in exchange for real money, but what about the buyer? I can't find any information on this.

Not in most cases. The point is though. You have no protection from scammers, ripoffs and what have you. You do so entirely at your own risk and no they will not reverse trades or return items.
