That's the weirdest part: there is no error message. Nothing. Steam client just crashes without any sort of warning or message. It works fine with my Xbox 360 controller. But it doesn't like the Saitek anymore.
Hi BonsaiBrudi!
I had this issue with my PS3 controller. Here is what I did to fix it :
1) I've installed the beta version of steam client.
2) I've switched OFF my controller and stop the DS3 custom Windows service I use to emulate my controller as an xbox controller.
3) I've started the "Big Picture" mode and went in settings/controllersettings to touch randomly the different settings there
4) I've switched ON my controller and started the DS3 service.
and voila! few seconds after, the "big picture" detected my controller and the steam client didn't crash.
Now, my controller is "registered" and steam works fine. No more need to go in "big picture" mode if i don't want to.
About your Saitek controller maybe you need to install "x360ce" to have it emulated like a xbox controller and it could be detected in steam.
Good luck!
PS: sorry about my english, it's not my native language
Thanks for the detailed answer. I'm very happy with my new controller now, so it's all good. I'll try your solution some time though, to see if it works for me as well.
And no worries about your English, it's absolutely fine ;)
