What actually happens when people report you for "spamming" or "harassment"

I mean say person 1 called person 2 a n word and person 2 reports him. I personally dont think they do anything, especially if the account is above level 15 and has multiple years on record. I dont really care im just curious as to what their actual process is and if there is any kind of punishment.

For just one report? Probably nothing at all. But if that person has a history of getting reports, they will eventually be looked into, and suspensions/bans will be applied.

You can get a community ban. Or just a simple forum ban that last a 3 days or more.

Sometimes you just instantly get a long ban.

You also get a little thread to talk to the Mod about your ban but they will most likely ignore you. lel.

I once got permabanned for being in the wrong place at the wrong time.
Talked to the moderator who then lifted my ban.

Depends on where the problem is, specific game discussions, the main steam discussions, or even a whole community ban of the problem is very serious.

I don't think steam can really do anything about that. Just tell the reporter to block the person.

Well actually i just wanted to see what happens because i messaged my friend and called him a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ (inside joke because we both like the movie clerks 2) and he reported me and i got banned from xboxlive for 5 days. I just wanted to know what steam did.

You have bad friends. Steam will probably laugh at the report.
