Install of old game (no cd key)
How can an older game with no cd key be added to steam? The game is in Steam store (Age of Empires I & II) so I know that Steam supports the game; publish date around 2006 (Gold Edition Age of Empires Collector's Edition; 3 CDs AoE and AoE II)

Just because Steam sells it doesn't mean you can add your old cd copy. Even if you can, you have got to have the key. Otherwise wait for a sale and buy it.

Also, the version of AoE2 on Steam is NOT the old CD version, it's a new HD remake.

you can only add the games as a non-steam games where it says + ADD A GAME in the bottom left of the steam client..

you have to purchase it on steam to have it as a steam game.

the only thing you can do is add the game as a non-steam game.

Steam has only ever had AoE 2 (in the HD form) and AoE 3. Oh and Age of Mythology, if you want to count that.

Not necessarily a question directly to Hotsauce, but is there any benefit to adding games to Steam in this way? I recently dusted off my old Quake and Doom II CDs..

Being able to use the overlay and friends list/chat without having to tab out.
Thanks. :chug:
