Do I get Duke Nukem 3D, Duke Nukem Megaton or Duke Nukem World Tour.

I mainly want it for modding & custom maps / mods.

Also I know that currently Duke Nukem World Tour is the only one on steam, but im happy to buy a key from somewhere.

I would say Megaton.
It consists of Duke3d Atomic and the expansion packs: Duke in DC, Nuclear Winter and Duke in Caribbean.

World Tour has a new episode but none of the expansion packs.

More people own Megaton, by a longshot.
However, active player numbers are low for both.
According to steamspy and steamcharts.

Duke Nukem 3D is the original DOS game. No sense in getting just that IMHO. Although its GRP file may be all you need to play custom mods et al.

Duke Nukem Megaton is the most complete, and includes all 3 original expansions. World Tour doesn't yet, so it's price may seem a bit steep right now.

If all you need is duke3d.grp for mods, either megaton or duke3d, the cheapest would do.

Duke Nukem 3D is the one that was bundled in the 3D Realms anthology pack and included the original DOS game plus an option to launch it with the eduke32 source port. I use this option to play mods and Duke Nukem megaton edition for the multiplayer. I've only played world tour for the new episode, the port isn't bad, but inferior compared to the other 2 releases. I recommend getting Megaton edition and using eduke32 for mods.

Be careful about that . though since Duke nMegaton, doesn't actually have a store page anymore. IT was replaced by World Tour.

Not on Steam in general. On the STORE. The STEAM store.

Its misleading.

Both games can be played and activated.

Sometimes a game gets replaced by a newer version, that is not the case here.

Megaton is simply not sold on the Steam store at this moment, but it can still be acquired through other venues, activated and played.

In fact, it remains as popular if not more than the commercial failure that is World Tour (<15K copies sold to date according to SteamSpy).

Megaton was not technically replaced but perhaps superceded by World Tour. The reason i say this is that they both have seperate store application ids.

Even if you still could get your hands on a Megaton license key, its a great gem to have in your library.
