Error Code -7
I cannot access my inventory, nor can I reach Steam Support through the client. Seeing how my internet connection is fine (even had a couple of games auto-update), the description of the error code suggests that there's a server problem. Anybody know what the status of it is?

Have you made any attempt to access the client from safe mode with networking?

Don't think so -- there hasn't been any major network changes since the last time I was able to access my inventory.

But there are some cases where Steam goes wonky and just doesn't seem to be able to communicate as to why i did ask and should attempt to run it in safe mode just to eliminate some problems.

Okay, so... how do I run Steam in safe mode? (At least, I think you mean running the program in safe mode, instead of the OS)

Reboot the computer and just before the computer is about to boot into Windows, tap F8 and a screen should appear giving you that option.

Ah, OS-based safe mode. Any suggestions for Linux? I'm running Ubuntu 16.04.

I do not have experience using the linux OS so i'm unable to assist you, sorry.

For anyone that needs help this is how i fixed it :

First of all uninstall steam.

you can do this by pressings tart and typing "apps and features" then search for steam and uninstall. If you have multiple directories delete them all.

Then Go to your Settings > Network & Internet > Network Reset (on the bottom of screen)

The Network reset will take 5 or so minutes where all of your network drivers will be uninstalled, reset and updated. I then re-installed Steam and no longer had the error.

Further things you can do if this does not work:

Check if the firewall has allowed steam by going to; Update & Security > Windows Security > Firewall and Network Protection > Allow an app through Firewall - search for Steam and make sure its enabled on both private and public.

One more thing you can do is update your windows as you could have had an error during installation or update.

Go to Settings > Update & Security > Check for updates - this will automatically initalize, download and install all required updates, do not interupt this as it can cause fatal errors. Furthermore it will require a restart that will install the update properly.

This is all i can do to help i struggled really hard to find a solution as this error seems to be very rare but i know how frustrating it is to do this as ive been searching for information the entire day to fix, and thought that someone would love to find this all in one message. I will post this message on other forums and wish you luck on fixing <3

The error happens to me all the time. Never found a permanent fix for it. This literally only happens to the Steam client, I can be downloading at 50MBs and watching a HD stream with no lag while gaming and logged into steam on Firefox and Chrome, yet the Steam client will give me an error -7. I've tried reinstalling everything, OS included and still it craps out after a few days of operation. I have resigned myself to the idea that the Steam client is garbage on the network end of the code. If anyone knows better I would love to hear it, but I have been looking online and troubleshooting for 6 months and nothing has helped for more than 2 days.

Current "fix" is to reinstall the Steam client over itself every couple of days.

I'm obviously on Steam (on Firefox) meanwhile refreshing the Steam client gives me an error 105 now.

Oh, also, Steam support is the most useless Support I have ever seen or worked with. I've worked technical support for 16 years, 2 as a Tech, 4 as an Admin, 7 as a Supervisor, 3 as a Manager. I would rather go on welfare as a ditch digger than claim Steam "support" as anything other than a complete waste of time.
