Recovering old chat logs

Is there anyway at all to recover messages sent a long time ago? The messenger wont show my old messages from a friend and I need to see them

Im trying to see messages from a friend, they were sent 3 years ago and it's the last messages i'll ever see from him so i'd like to be able to access them. They dont pop up when i pull up the messenger so im just trying to see if there's anything i can do.

My answer was 100% serious. They are long gone and you would need a court order to compel Valve to release those records.

That sucks, thanks for your response. I'll still have a ticket up with support to see if there's anyway I can convince them to look. You're probably right but its worth a shot I guess.

nope. they dont have that readily available.

keep records of your chats by yourself.

Let us know if they ever came back with the chat logs in your support ticket. I'd like to know if I would be wasting my time trying to get my chat logs from my friend who died in April.

it doesn't work like that.

If Valve do keep a record of chat logs you could probably request a copy under the data protection act. You can also request for them to be destroyed.

They said they couldn't help me out a week or so after I made the support ticket, sorry for the delayed response I forgot about this thread. Thanks everyone for your help and stuff, maybe its just best left alone.
