Disabling the Stupid New Controller Settings?
So apparently Steam implemented a terrible version of XPadder that's mandatory, and it's made my controller useless in games that are preferable for controllers (GTA V, Deus Ex: Mankind Divided, Borderlands 2, etc.).

My controller worked just fine prior to the update that added this lousy feature, so how do I disable the new feature so it leaves my games alone?

And before you pointlessly go PC elitist and try to come up with some "witty" jab at me for using a controller, I'll have you know I use the input device best suited for the task/game, not based on some misguided sense of righteousness, so don't even bother with the controller bashing.

Just tell me how to disable Steam's meddlesome new settings, please.

Steam>Settings>Controller>General Controller Settings. Uncheck all the boxes.

There was some bug that accidentally enabled this for people, should not happen again.

Ah, thanks!
Hopefully that does the trick; if not, I'll be back.

Just be aware that currently Steam has enabled "cords" functionality across all controllers recently. It's kind if like the controller shortcut for screenshot that always existed but extended to more stuff.
You can for example alt-tab when pressing guide+start, move the mouse by holding guide and moving the right stick and even control media buttons with guide+left stick.

You might not even notice if you don't really use the guide button so it might not cause issues for you, maybe you might even find it convenient? Still, you should know if you had issues.

I like this feature but there is no easy way to disable it currently which is not ideal.

You can change all the cord shortcuts to whatever you want however, even disable them all if they cause problems or just ignore them if you don't use the guide button. It's a pretty cool feature for people who play from their couch.

Many people experience controller issues on Steam. Controllers are a bad idea with PC games for one simple reason anyway:

Mapping conflicts due to the fact that too many commands are bound to too few keys, and that's why I stopped buying controllers for PC games back in 1990.

If you are dead-set on using a controller, your best bet is to buy a Steam controller.

Well, the fix mentioned earlier solved the problem with GTA V (game designed SOLELY for controller, as it was originally consoles only, and that's just a fact), however, the inability to invert the Y-axis in Deus Ex: Mankind Divided remains an issue, and only started when Steam introduced this bulls**t that overrides the already working controller schemes for so many games.

I've never had an issue with using a controller for PC gaming until this Steam update.
Oh, and no, I'm not using that piece of s**t Steam Controller; having gamed with a controller for the past 27 years, I can tell you from experience the Steam controller is a terrible design.
I'm wondering if they're intentionally trying to sabotage non-Steam controllers to force people to buy their half-a**ed shlock.

Although, it may be an issue on Deus Ex's developers' part (people have reported mouse and keyboard bindings are messed up now, too), so I guess now we just watch the tired old corporate blame game where Square Enix blames Valve, and Valve blames Square Enix, never actually solving the issue. Too bad I can't get my money back for Deus Ex: Mankind Divided, because it's now unplayable over 50 hours in.

Anyone who knows how to fix this, and how to completely disable Steam's controller medling will be a hero to me.

Just disable Steams input mapper, replug the gamepad and you're good to go.

you're so right with this Steam Controller thing. some might find it comfortable and useful, idk, I just don't get it.

good that GTA worked eventually, but as you still have stuff to fix with Deus Ex (that worked surprisingly well with my xb360 controller) I'd ask - is remapping the controller an option for you? as you say, the mouse and keyboard bindings are messed up, that might help?

And what do you mean exactly, how are they messed up? that happens when you plug in the controller, and then the buttons you press on controller simply don't reproduce? (sorry, I might have missed the part wherre you explain that)

AFAIK the best way to go is not to use any mappers at all amd if that involves not using the Steam controller, so be it. I prefer having stuff just work, the XBox gamepad does that for games that support it and KBM is still an option (and when it comes to FPS, its the best option). But that's just me, some people want to tinker before they play.

True the new steam update messed with all games what uses the steam joypad interface, it used to works fine, but now it is just all messed...

It was working fine. Then they added some random garbage without asking that messed everything up. Not sure if I'm more angry at that or at you for being a smartass. If you're so ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ helpful, would you mind sharing if there is a way to completely block all contributions made by someone on steam once I'm done judging him?

edit: Found it, works like a charm and it's very soothing for the soul.

editedit: lol, some blogwart removed that jerk's quote from this post so now it appears like I'm angry at you guys for offering solutions to the problems introduced by this feature instead of at the guy who was being a smartass as well as at the feature and the person responsible for it ^^ Ohh, what have my internets come to ^^

editeditedit: I fixed it by setting all the shortcuts to "none" except in that full screen thingy I never use. Btw. I would use it if it allowed to easily list all the "couch co-op" enabled games

You know, posting that when quoting doesn't quite make sense as this can all to easy be interpreted as you speaking to the person you quoted.

And how do you disable Steam input mapper?
Cromi Dec 5, 2018 @ 11:34pm
The controller config is attached to the steam overlay. If you turn it off in In-Game settings, then the games will be in complete control of configuring your controller.
