Steam streaming with PS4 controller broken after latest update.
Tldr: steam update broke ps4 controller in mass effect. Seems to be taking control from ds4, or in native mode button mappings don't work. Need config help for both host and client streaming machines.

I've been steam streaming Mass Effect Andromeda fine since release - previously I was playing it with my PS4 controller using ds4 for Xbox 360 controller emulation. I had never setup anything in steam for controller support, it had always just worked so I never fussed I with it.

After each (host and steam streaming box) updated last night, I tried to start mass effect:a but was greeted by a pop-up to configure my controller. I tried to close but it wouldn't seem to let me. I created a name for the controller - gave it a color, clicked done, and the RGB light on the front changed, I assume that was steam taking over control of the joystick from ds4 but I'm not totally sure to be honest. Started me:a and nothing worked, the buttons we're all wrong and it was using the PS touchpad as camera control, so I closed the stream. When the stream was exiting I swear I saw the controller config stuff on the host machine but it flashed off the screen quickly and I wasn't able to tell if it was just the streaming box window closing or the host. In any event I searched for and found the controller options stuff in 'big picture' mode.

When I was in there I noticed the following: when ds4 is enabled it recognizes the controller as xbox360 - or generic - or sometimes uplink device. When I first start ds4 the RGB color turns dark blue, I set steam to turn it green so I can sorta tell what's going on. Each time I restart ds4 it turns blue, but when game loads it turns green. When ds4 is disabled steam sees the controller as PS4 controller. I have all the boxes checked for controller support (360, PS4, generic) on the streaming box. I have the same setting on the host. I have also tried only using 360 configuration profile but then I get no button response in game.

I tried to do custom key mappings for the PS4 controller and it seemed to work (in non-big picture mode I clicked "controller options"). I was able to walk through the mapping and save config, but again when I load me:a nothing works.

If anyone here has any ideas I would be grateful. I can't seem to find settings that work and this sorta ruins me:a for me - everything was working so well for weeks before this. Me:a only seems to support Xbox 360 controller (which makes sense) so I'm hoping someone can tell me how to do this either native or with ds4. What I need is to get the PS4 controller looking like an Xbox 360 controller to mass effect - and I need to know what the setting should be on both the host and client machines. Sorry if this is too specific / or a common question. I'm a super new to the streaming stuff and was at this for hours last night with no luck.

Was going to do exactly what you did stream me:a On to my surface got it working I could navigate the menu walk shoot etc but I had no sound. I fixed that re launched me and big picture mode popped up to register or set up the controller just like you I picked a colour etc. This broke everything can't move aim nothing in any game that is installed or stream yet it has proper functions mapped in big picture mode. I spent the whole night messing about with Bluetooth or cable connection. If connected via Bluetooth and then connected with the cable also it will think you have2 controllers wtf. If any one has a fix to just plug and play that would be great.

It looks like the last update deleted controller mappings - but not in 'big picture' mode. I fixed this by doing the following on the client:

Go into big picture mode
Controllers
Uncheck all boxes except Xbox support
Close steam
Start ds4 (default profile)
After controller detected by ds4 start steam in normal mode
Should now see this next to the game https://imgur.com/gallery/GX4RQ

Click "configure controller" and redo all mappings. Mine were blank at first but I was able to click each button / trigger and manually map that to the Xbox controller in the picture on the mapping screen.
restart steam
Stream mass effect
Working
