Long story short. I have EARTH DEFENSE FORCE 4.1 The Shadow of New Despair, but it was NOT bought from Steam. I have added it manually though.

Now I want to purchase Mission pack two, but the page says "This content requires the base game EARTH DEFENSE FORCE 4.1 The Shadow of New Despair on Steam in order to play." .

My question is - can I buy Mission Pack 2 from Steam and have it work, or since I've added it manually, will it not work?

If it does NOT work, where can I buy it from? I'm on a PC.

You must have the game purchased from Steam. Retail will not work with he Steam DLC.

I do not know if it is possible to buy retail DLC for that game.

As far as i know, EDF 4.1 is a Steamworks title, meaning all legit copies require Steam to work.
So, either you paid for a pirated copy, or you're lying, or i'm seriously mistaken.

Where did you buy the game?

Anyway, DLCs on Steam are only compatible with the Steam version of the base game.

Wow, thanks. Bummer. I'm sitting here itching to pay for the thing.... I did a Google search and I can't find anywhere other than Steam I can buy it from..... madness.

That's because you can only legitimately get a PC version of the game with Steam as the DRM. If you have a pc version of that game where you aren't using Steam you definitely have a pirated version of the game.

i suppose you might not realise this if maybe.. maybe.. a friend of yours put the pirated game on your computer without your knowledge. Or if you are a kid/teen who shares a computer with a sibling, or even parent.. your sibling or parent may have put the pirated version on your computer (or if you're a parent, maybe your child put the pirated version on your computer).

But... if you google that game you will see it is ONLY on PC with Steam.
That is to say even if you buy the game from Amazon or some other legitimate online retailer, you will *still* need to activate it on Steam.
