Steam games-external hard drive?
If I buy an external hard drive(with like 1 terrabyte)
can I install steam games on it and play them?

While it is possible, it is not recommended.
First, the external harddrive must be fast enough. Most are using rather cheap drivers with low RPM and small cache. Fine for storing data, bad for constantly accessing data.
Second, you'd need a good connection, like USB 3
Third, you must ALWAYS have the drive connected before you start Steam. Otherwise, it can not find the games on the external drives and assume they are uninstalled. It will also not look again if the games are back.

Internal drives are cheaper as externals. If you are on a desktop, is nothing easier as to add another HDD. A 3TB Seagate should come for 90USD.
On a laptop is also possible but there you need replace to one which is already there cause they have not enough space for several drives.
