Lost file permissions solutions
Wen I open a game sometimes a file for that game has lost certain permissions so the game is no longer playable until I reboot. But I was wondering, rebooting is just a short fix and then it comes back, but is there a more permanent fix?

Lost permission: Unknown.
Reason for permission lost: Unknown.
Permanent solution: Move the SteamFileComplex to a custom desktop file.
Current solution: Rebooting.
Reason for disliking current solution: Reboots take a while to get everything back and running to normal and I have to reboot kinda often.

That's more than likely a Windows problem and nothing to do with Steam.

If you've still got Steam installed in Program Files, move it out. C:\Steam works. C:\Games\Steam... etc.

If you say its windows can you explain why nonsteam games do not have this problem and its only steam games that have this problem? Its steam, confirmed that for a while. But there is no harm in trying but I do have some things I need to do before I can do that so it will be a few hours.

Non-Steam games aren't in Steam's folder structure. They aren't subject to any permissions set by you or the OS. Thus they aren't a reliable indicator.

It is Windows. Do you have Steam installed in the default location?
DarthSandpaper May 1, 2017 @ 4:47pm
I only installed it but I have no idea there was a default location.

So it's still in Program Files. Like I said, move it out. That should alleviate a lot of permission problems.

Will try.

Also wen I move it out were do I put it afterwords? And were do I go to in the files to move out steam files?
Snapjak May 1, 2017 @ 4:55pm
You could just move the entire Steam folder to some other place.

Most of the time it's suggested as C:\Steam or C:\Games\Steam. Replace C: with whatever drive you want.

So I can put the entire steam file to the desktop and create a file there and it will still work with no problem whatsoever?
Snapjak May 1, 2017 @ 5:04pm
You could yes but I would move the folder itself rather than loose files.
DarthSandpaper May 1, 2017 @ 5:06pm
Yes that is what I was saying, move the entire SteamFileComplex to a custom desktop folder and everything is good and we are all happy. Got it.

I actually never got around to doing it........ I haven't had the problem.... may be I'm just into games that don't do that? idk *goes on war thunder and shoots people*
