Is it possible to start a single game in Offline Mode
Hi,

I know how to activate the Offline Mode in Steam, but is it possible to play only a specific game offline?

For example:
I like to play Street Fighter online, but I do not want to play Dark Souls online (because getting invaded all the time kind of annoys me). Is there an option to play all games online except Dark Souls?

No, unfortunately. You would need to go offline each time you wanted to play Dark Souls, unless the game has an option to disable invasions.

Uuuuuh, actually this is very possible. I know this post is really old, but if people search for a solution for this, and only see all these (wrong) answers, they're missing out on some features.

So, how do you do it?

1. Find the path to the launchfile of the game. E.g., if I wanted to launch AC3 in offline mode, my path to that would be "C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Assassin's Creed 3\AC3SP.exe".

(You hopefully do know how to do that.)

2. Right click the very same game in your library, click Properties, then 'Set Launch Options'.

3. In the box that pops up, write this syntax: ["Launchpath"] -offline. The launchpath has to be in airquotes!

And example of that (with AC3 again) would be:
"C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Assassin's Creed 3\AC3SP.exe" -offline

4. Click ok, and then you're done. Your game will now launch in offline mode.

EDIT:
You might need to restart your Steam Client before this works.

@Erik

Could you please explain this process with Grand Theft Auto V as an example?
Because it has three .exes and I don't know which one I have to use.
I would appreciate it.

Hey Erik. I've can't get this to work with Hitman, and can't find any other mention of this -offline launch option... Do you know if it still works?

Thank you so much for posting this! This will help me to protect Skyrim from the AE update!

Thanks Erik! I'm using this because I find it annoying that Steam starts and checks for updates every time I start up Doom 3 when I just want to play a game that hasn't been updated since -- who knows when.

Block all traffic for the game executable in your firewall.

Thank you so much for this. Been trying to play Ghost Recon but when creating a private party for some reason the game lags and closes. And this solved the problem.

This thread was quite old before the recent post, so we're locking it to prevent confusion.
