How do save files merge/update when playing in offline mode?

I am curious to how files merge (or don't merge) when you happen to have played in offline mode on a laptop, but then played on your non-offline PC that you are usually on? I ask because I did this a bit accidentally, tad more lazily and realized I now have two save files on a game that are seperate, but at new points that each computer is different on.

If I put my laptop online, will it be able to merge the files so no data is lost, or am I going to have to decide which one get overwriten?

I was lucky to realize this pretty soon, but would prefer to avoid data loss if possible, thanks!

it is game specific. You need to ask in the forum area for the game or games in question. It all depends on how the dev implemented the cloud saves into the game. People that have the game are the ones that may be able to answer you...
