Steam Browser lagging
Ever since Steam updated today, the Steam browser is running extremely slow for me. I type and it lags, I scroll and it lags. Yet... if I open Task manager to see if it's eating CPU cycles unnecessarily I can suddenly type at normal speed and it "fixes" the problem. Is anyone else running into this?

Steam updated it's web engine, maybe some software on your PC isn't happy about that for some reason and slows it down.

Try shutting every software down and see if there is some conflict.

I tried a reboot, and I've disabled everything I can without going into Safe Mode, and the same behavior persists:

1) Load Steam.
2) Open the Discussions section under Community, Steam slows to a crawl.
3) Open and close the Task Manager.
4) Steam now functions normally.

If I exit Steam and restart it the behavior returns unless I go through the above procedure. If I navigate away from the Discussions section and back into it, the behavior returns until I open and close Task Manager. This ONLY started after today's Steam update. I've never had this problem before.

I have the same issue, i have a good system and there is no reason for this.
I have changed nothing and now it wont update and it is as laggy as hell.
I have done a FULL COLD RE-INSTALL, not changed a thing...
After the re-install i now have to download all my games. this will take YEARS at
the current transfer rate of 14Kps... Lol NO NOT FUNNY AT ALL.
Steam has allways beem a ripoff and now they have the monopoly they
dont give a rats ass about there customers... If they ever did...

Install the beta client. Under Steam>Settings>Account>Beta Participation. Fixed it for me.

I just tried the beta client and I'm still having the same issue.

NO DEFINATELY DO NOT DO THAT.
It totallycrashed my steam acc and that of hundreds of outher steam users.
There are forums full of angry gamers trying to figure out how to completely
opt out. BETA means unfinished and UNTESTED......

Thanks for the warning, baddoggs. I just opted out of beta again. Since it didn't fix my problem there's no reason to keep it enabled.

Yeah, i had to do a "cold" reload of steam to fix it.
Still can't get acess to my games as my transfer rate is now just
a few kilobytes per min. I have tenderd a support ticket but,
as per usual... steam got my money allready so why would they care?

Been having the same problem. I did some 'cleaning up' in the Steam browser and it seems to run smoother now, but that may just as well be coincidence. Still, it only takes a minute so here's what I did:
  • in the upper left corner of the Steam browser, click Steam then Settings
  • select Web Browser and delete both browser cache and cookies (using the two buttons for that)
  • select Downloads and again click the button to clear the cache
After that, Steam will restart so it may be this restart more than anything that caused improvement for me, but I thought I'd share it anyway.

Thanks for the heads up with the cache and stuff. However the whole client is still very sluggish. Activity feed will only wrk 1 in 5 times ...friend list shows alot of blanks and so forth :(
STEAM sucks even worse than normal since the last update.

Both the live and the beta clients run on the same version now anyway.

Can anyone test if deleting the contents of
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\appcache\httpcache
(change location according to your steam base install folder)
fixes it? I've restarted steam 3 times and it didn't happen again, but don't want to spam my friends and co with messages, so will just keep it in mind. (Thanks steam for not allowing me to control that behavior anyways!)

edit:
obviously, close steam before doing so

This method seems to be the solution to this issue. Was experiencing the same problem, thought it was nothing to worry about. So out of curiosity I try this and needless to say that this method doesn't seem to be a coincidence.

For me all I did was clear my Web Browser cache, after that steam restarted and it runs completely normal now. I even restarted steam manually just to be sure. As the first commenter on the forum stated, steam updated its web engine, so I put two and two together and that seems to be the case. This may or may not work for everyone but I'm letting others know that I'm confirming this to help a lot of you having this issue.

All credit goes to kris.aalst for taking the time of doing something that many of us wouldn't of thought of doing, including myself. Thank you.
