Ubuntu: Can't Create Launcher or Desktop Shortcuts for Games

Hello, I'm having an issue creating both Launcher and Desktop shortcuts on Ubuntu 16.04. I've reinstalled all games and enabled desktop and launcher shortcuts to no avail. After installation I attempted to create a desktop launcher and received a message indicating a launcher could not be create as a shortcut probably existed... it doesn't. Has anyone else encountered and corrected this issue? Thanks!

I'm on Lubuntu 16.04 and just encountered this problem after updating my steam client. Old client created shortcuts with no problem but client version 1496344747 seems slightly bugged.

A shortcut can be created manually as outlined at the bottom of:

Other than that I guess we will have to wait for an updated client.

Very frustrating... I do not have shortcuts on my deskopt but even if I did it's my business as the user. Software should not be making this decision without me.
