Steam client freezing / lagging

Hello,

Recently woke up, booted my pc, went to a shower after that came back to see what updates steam is downloading and noticed something weird that is steam client has started to lag and freeze when ever i try to stop downloads or even open my friend list, I have not experienced that for a long time 1.5 - 2 years ever since this happened to me and now its happening again. Opened news section and saw that steam had another update. I dunno but i think that is why my steam client is lagging once again because all previous days everything was smooth. Fast fix for this is if you restart steam client and that does not work all the time so i don't know, but it is frustrating.

maybe it's just me but i think this new steam's update has to do with freeze lag.

Same here, this is the first time I've had a problem with the client, but the latest update made mine, slow, laggy and clunky. A reboot helps, but something is wrong.

Same here, the Store page is unusable due to the freezing. First time this has happened for me.

As was posted in another topic, disabling antivirus programs fixes it. Valve needs to address this.

dont have any antivirus softwares. I used avast month ago but due to conflicting with skype i had to delete it from system.

hmmm, i disabled Microsoft Security Essentials realtime scanning and restarted steam and it was fixed. must be something more the broke in the update.

just restarting steam will fix this issue, as i meantioned it on op.

Just rebooted my system and everything seems to be working fine again. Weird.

I have been noticing a lot of lag since the recent update. The Store, Inventory and forums are lagging, can hardly click anything. OK through web browser though, so this update must have affected something?

Same problem here. Since 2 days the steam client is lagging on every operation so bad that its nearly unusable.

What I've found since this started is: the first time I start Steam each day from a fresh boot I get serious lag and freezing, especially on the Store page. Closing Steam down then re-opening it fixes it every time.
