Full screen and no sound
---------------------------------------Sorry if this is the wrong place to post this---------------------------------------
Hello,
So, I recently bought a few games, LEGO The Lord of the Rings, The Stanley Parable, STAR WARS Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy, State of Decay: Year-One, Don't Starve, put it simple, all my games when they are in full screen don't play sound AT ALL. I first noticed this with Don't Starve (I waited several months for responses from the developers and all they can say is that the problem is my computer).
But, I don't think it is. I do however have a few games that do play sound in full screen. Only three of the twelve games work in full screen with sound – Dead by Daylight, Team Fortress, and H1Z1: King of the Kill.
With Don’t Starve, they tried having me configure sound files to edit the volume of the sound, which resulted in no resolution.
Here is some info that you may require:
I use a laptop
I have an HDMI cord attached to my TV so I can have a larger screen
I use windows 10 OS 64-bit
I3-5020U CPU
Is there anything else you require to trouble-shoot this problem?
Kindest regards,
K&A_73

Why do you mention fullscreen explicitly? Do the games play sound in windowed mode?

post full model of your laptop

Does it only happen when connected to the TV? Or without it as well?

Let me check, this is a difficult task... maybe 15 minutes

HDMI cables are different: they are a family of standards - some transmit only video, other video + sound, the third - video + audio + ethernet ... the same with the interfaces of TVs (in the technical passport and on the manufacturer's website will be written, which HDMI standard is supported )

It is necessary to verify that:
1 cable and TV support the desired functionality (audio transmission via HDMI, not only video)
2 in the driver settings, the mixer in Windows, in the Steam client and in the games the correct settings are set - I came across a situation where when connecting to TV, driver (mixer) did not recognize the device and did not redirect the audio output to HDMI, I had to experiment with the settings to set the correct... but then, when find proper settings, when connected, it auto redirect audio to HDMI on TV, I do not know what the problem was :nonplussed_creep:
Maybe the reason was that the video card also has a sound card and an HDMI output, and the game / client / mixer could not determine which device to use, after manual tuning it all worked

The laptop uses Conexant sound chips (the ones, with a built-in keylogger in the driver google HP conexant driver built-in keylogger :steammocking: hope toshiba use version without keylogger)

The game sounds will not work with out the TV/HDMI cord for fullscreen, but when the game is in window mode it still works without the TV/HDMI cord.

So are you saying, this may just be a problem I'll have to deal with? T____T

So, now we know your TV and your HDMI cable is not causing it, since it still happens without using them.
Now we've isolated the cause to your computer. That makes it easier to identify what is causing it.

Are your drivers up to date? Don't rely on Windows to update them, because it doesn't.

Yes! Exactly, the developers for Don't Starve tried configuring files within ~\Documents\Klei\DoNotStarve and adjusting the sound within the Settings.txt file. However, this did not fix the issue.

"Windows has determined the driver software for your device is up to date." -- Audio endpoint

I told you, do not rely on Windows. Do it yourself.

Yay!!! It worked! Thank you so much Cathulhu! :D I can finally play fullscreen now!

Nice to hear it was a rather easy and fast fix.

You should read the entire thread first. What I did that finally resolved this was, I manually updated all of my drivers and it solved the issue.
