How to cancel a friend request?

I added someone by accident and I don't want them on my friendslist. Is there a way I can cancel my request? Thanks, and sorry if this is a noob question.

unfriend them.

click the drop down menu next to their name in the friends list window. click "remove this friend..."

Hello. Below I have listed different ways to cancel a friend request for you to review in your situation. I hope this helps :)

STEAM Application - Request Sent But Not Accepted or Declined By Other User

If you are trying to cancel a friend request that has been sent but not yet accepted nor declined in the STEAM application on your PC, you would have to navigate into your friends tab by clicking the bottom right, "View Friends List" (If you use a custom steam skin the location of the friends tab may vary. On "METRO Skin For Steam" the friends tab is located on the top right of the STEAM application). Afterwards, scroll all the way to the bottom to see the "Invitations Sent", those are the friend requests you've sent but haven't been accepted or declined yet. When you find the friend request invitation you would like to cancel, right click the invitation and "Remove This Friend".

Navigate to the user's STEAM profile and click the "more" options tab right next to "Add Friend" and click "Unfriend". I couldn't find a way to directly find all users who have recieved a requested friend request from you.

STEAM Application & Website - Unfriend a Added User

Open your profile and click "Friends". You can manage all your friends from there if you're on both the application and website. If you're just on the application, click on the friends tab (default steam skin is the bottom right) and right click a user and click "Remove This Friend". On the website you can go on https://steamcommunity.com/chat/ to also see all your friends and manage then just like the STEAM application friends list.
