Question: My gift won't activate?
So, a friend gave me a copy of a game a year ago. I could not play it then because it was not compatible with my Mac. Now it has been updated and works with Mac too. But as I try to activate the gift, it will not. I repeatedly try to activate the game, and add it to my game collection, but the site just freeze. It asks me if I rather activate it through the web browser or the Steam application, and I have tried both, but it always results in a frozen page (both in the web and the app). What can I do? I cannot seem to find a way to contact Steam directly either, so I cannot get their help.

Hi, thank you for your tip. Sorry for being such a noob, but I cannot figure out how to opt out of the Steam client beta. I tried following this tutorial: https://steamcommunity.com/groups/SteamClientBeta/discussions/1/864957817328247556/

But some of the buttons mentioned in the tutorial, are not there? It was written in 2013, so maybe it is outdated? In that case, does anyone know how to opt out of the client beta today?

Well, first of all, "frozen page" shouldn't happen, even on a Mac -- I seriously doubt the Steam software is THAT bad. So, you have some strange things happening on your box.

Also, "activating a gift" has nothing to do with the platform, as it only adds the license to your account. If you have successfully done that the first time around, activating the same gift again will not work since it has already been used, and you can just install and play it.

Unfortunately, looking for "a game" in your game list is kind of pointless. People like to call every game "a game" or "the game", but you can't look those up. Regardless, if the gift was activated back then, "the game" will be in your library. Make sure you set the library to show "All games" (not just "Installed games" or something like that), or check your license list at https://store.steampowered.com/account/licenses/

Man, the game is not there... What should I do? Is it outdated because I did not activate it a year ago? Or could I have lost my license somehow? Do I really have to buy the game myself now? I am really lost here, so I appreciate any replies!

Which game are you talking about?
Is it in your Steam inventory?

If it was in your inventory before and now isn't, maybe its just because an activation attempt succeeded?

The game is named "Stardew Valley", and no, it never made it to my inventory. You see, I got a mail a year ago, which said I got the game as a gift. You could follow a link from the mail in order to activate the game, however I did not do it then (see the description). But as I want to activate it today, and follow the link in the mail, I am lead to a Steam-page, which tells me the game is now in my library (which it is not), and that I can play the game through the Steam application. As I follow a new link and open the Steam application, everything freezes. And that is it. I just have to quit the application and begin on new, but it fails every time.

How long have you waited?

Have you had your friend re-send the gift? After such a long time, that link may just be expired.

I have waited around 20-30 min, I think.
Would it not cost my friend money to send the gift on new?
