Activating a game issue (nier automata)
So i wanted to activate a game on my PC but i have to put a CD in the PC so i can activate the game, the problem is that i dont have anywhere to put the CD in except my brothers notebook, so if i put the CD in my brothers notebook and activate it on steam, will i be able to play that game on my PC?

You dont need the disc at all. You only need the serial key that comes with the game.
Go to your Steam client, choose "add a product to Steam" in the lower left corner or in the settings, then enter the serial key. That will activate the game on your account.
After that you can just download it like any other game on Steam.

Then the code has either already been used or its not a Steam version.
Any serial key that comes with a Steam retail game will work without the disc.
100% all the time.
What error message do you get when trying to activate the key on Steam?

Oh wait, you are actually right.
Just found this:
The code given inside the case cannot be redeemed on steam, you need to insert the disc then open redeem.exe and enter the code. After that it will give you a steam key to redeem on steam.

The disc contains game data if you want to install from it.

That is really strange and the first time i heard of it being handled that way.
So apologies to the OP, you were correct.

So insert the disc into the netbook of your brother, open the redeem.exe and the code you get you can use on your Steam account to activate the game.

https://pcgamingwiki.com/wiki/Nier:_Automata#Availability shows an interesting entry:

Eastern Europe: Steam key is obtained in Redeem.exe which checks CD-key and DVD authenticity

new square enix tactic.

especially for those in the SEA region that were trying to purchase physical copies of the game. the game is region restricted and was not released for them when it was for the rest of the world. when they tried using the key they got nothing.

only a few of their games have this.

you could see some of the outrage about the delay of release here...

so, if i put the disc in the notebook, open the reedem.exe, i will get a code that i can put into my PC?

No. But you can activate the game on the notebook using the disc and then download it on your computer, after the activation was successful.

make sure you redeem it on the correct account...

so just simply add the game to library on notebook and then install it on PC?

Yes, as long as you use the correct account as Silicon Vampire said. Games are not bound to a PC, they are bound to an account, which you can use on as many computers as you want.
