They where abused so Valve has to come up with another thing or it might just not be back at all.

Basically some developer sold those badges to people who wanted it and it was then used by scammers to scam people.

All developers have had their badged removed. Unscrupulous developers were selling them to people who then used the badge as leverage to scam people.

The result - Everyone looses out.

At least mods and VALVE employees dont sell their badges. Would be a lot worst.

Oh my gosh that would be horrible. I think it doesn't work the same add the steam dev badge though. But still imagine the amount of fake valve scammers

It is loses, not looses.

And why would everyone lose out? The badges did not impact everyone. Only certain people. And if the badges allowed people to get scammed by building trust, then I say removing them is actually a WIN for everyone.

It's a loss for everyone who had one legitimately and for everyone else who would have legitimately gotten one in the future.

having a developer badge does not make you a developer though. Does not give you any credibility. It really impacts nothing worthwhile. Except allowing access to someone gullible enough to believe anyone with a badge is actually a developer. Or maybe just to grow your ego.

Trust me, I have had several friends with the right connections get developer badges. Luckily none of them were doing this for nefarious reasons. They did it just because they have money and like to flash it. Granted some are actual developers. The actual developers are not going to lose any credibility over this. They have bigger things to worry about other than a badge, like working on projects.

I really don't know why this is an issue.

Sorry if my typo offended you.

There were other ways to earn the badge besides being a developer. Certain Valve Beta testers have been rewarded with the badge for example.

Those people are losing out, just because others can't be trusted.

The same people who get scammed because they believe the developer badge means something, will carry on getting scamed. so this won't change anything. Some people just have to write Valve on their profile and people believe them.

Net result, people lose out and nothing is gained in the fight against scammers.

Overall I think it was good they got rid of it, I did beta test starbound and I knew the original developer. That could be why, thank you!
I had earned my badge legitimately, but sadly it seems it's gone now. Personally no other badge is worth featuring on my profile.

I don't understand why you needed the badge in the first place.
