Basically some developer sold those badges to people who wanted it and it was then used by scammers to scam people.
The result - Everyone looses out.
Full time mod, part time ninja
It is loses, not looses.
And why would everyone lose out? The badges did not impact everyone. Only certain people. And if the badges allowed people to get scammed by building trust, then I say removing them is actually a WIN for everyone.
fake developers in panic - they not read news in developers group...
Trust me, I have had several friends with the right connections get developer badges. Luckily none of them were doing this for nefarious reasons. They did it just because they have money and like to flash it. Granted some are actual developers. The actual developers are not going to lose any credibility over this. They have bigger things to worry about other than a badge, like working on projects.
I really don't know why this is an issue.
Sorry if my typo offended you.
There were other ways to earn the badge besides being a developer. Certain Valve Beta testers have been rewarded with the badge for example.
Those people are losing out, just because others can't be trusted.
The same people who get scammed because they believe the developer badge means something, will carry on getting scamed. so this won't change anything. Some people just have to write Valve on their profile and people believe them.
Net result, people lose out and nothing is gained in the fight against scammers.
