Steam isn't launching games properly
Hi all,

When I attempt to launch any steam game, the program "Opens" so it's in my task manager but it doesnt actually launch. Steam also says I'm in the game. So it doesn't show up in my task bar, I can't alt tab to it either.
I have uninstalled and reinstalled the game, uninstalled and reinstalled steam and then the game as well, and I have verified game cache multiple times. I have also updated my drivers.
This was happening on all my steam games, not just CSGO.

The thing is, this wasn't happening the night before. But when I tried to run my steam games today this began happening. I didn't make any changes to my computer inbetween.

I followed the instructions of the article from steam called "Programs which may interfere with steam". Didn't help, anyone else experiencing this issue?

I'm getting the exact same problem!! For the past couple of days most of my games won't start. I've tried everything that people have recommended on forums and videos and it's still not working, but I'll let you know if I manage to fix it.

Thanks for the response Spawk, for the first one, I've done all of it and even reformatted my computer. Didnt help.
For the second one, as you can see in my post above, already done this too. Didnt help.

@toselydome, mine started happening a couple of days ago too. Maybe a particular steam update? Hopefully they'll patch it away I guess.
I'll let you know if I manage to fix it as well, thanks mate.

has windows recently updated for you?

I've tried all of those too, sadly. I get the same problem if I open them through the .exe, and running them as administrator makes no difference either. Also, I did only just notice the problem after I installed this very latest version of Windows 10, so I have been suspicious that it's the reason why this is happening! Why do you ask, cSg|mc-Hotsauce?

It's not even an old PC and the specs are reasonably good!! It worked one day and then it was broken the next.

What happens if you try to launch games directly through the .exe files in the install folder?

Exactly the same thing.
@hotsauce, i may have installed updates actually, if so then we'll actually have to wait for steam to patch.
Why are more people not having this issue

I sometimes had this issue with other source games, like Left 4 Dead or Half-Life 2
The fix for that was to kill everything related to the game and to steam via the task manager the browse to the Steam folder and find the appcache folder and delete it. To be 100% sure that its not a problem with your steam files then you can look for the Clientregistry.blob (or .blop im not sure anymore xD) and delete this one too.

Then after launching Steam again just verify your game files and then it should be fine again

Thanks for the suggestion but sadly this hasn't worked either :(
Oddly, PLAYERUNKNOWN'S BATTLEGROUNDS works just fine for some reason, while other games don't.

Also, .blob is my new favourite file type.

I've fixed it!!! I went back to the AMD site to double check the driver and it gave me an option to install an 'optional driver' that I hadn't seen before. Then all I had to do was verify the game cache for each of the games and now they're all working properly again!!

Praise be to GabeN and thank you for your help guys.
