Steam will not accept my activation code

I now have Hitman Absolution, bought entirely legally, but Steam will not accapt the activation code I have and not only that, when I ask for support it says I have to respond to an email it sends me that I never receive - therefore I can get no further. The email they give is the correct one and it does not go into spam.

There appears to be no way I can get in touch otherwise so what the noras head am i to do next?

Are you activating via Games, Activate a Product on Steam... in the Steam client?
