Playing offline

Can you play the games you buy on Steam offline. When I activate a game it runs to my Steam login which of course you need to be connected to the net for but say you lose your connection to the net. Is there a way to run your games offline without connecting to Steam or the net ?

You need Steam open, but Steam has an "Offline Mode" option.
To my knowledge, this is all good for about 90 days. After then you'll need to log in again. You can toggle straight back into Offline Mode once this happens, though.

Thats good and 90 days is alot of time to get your connection back lol.

Not all games will work in Offline mode. However, I'd say a vast majority of them do not require you to be online. Especially games with secondary DRM that do require you to be "Always Online."

Actually it seems you do need to log in to access offline mode which imo is a contadiction. How can I play my Steam games without logging into Steam ? even when I buy games on discs you need to have a Steam account. I have nothing against Steam and use if for online play but sometimes I lose my internet connection and play offline or single player.

Save your credentials when you log in, that makes it so you can log in even when there's no internet.

Hi everyone! A few minutes ago I tried to play to Sid Meier's Civilization V being connected on a public wifi. It's too crowded so I couldn't launch Steam but that should be ok, I already played Civ V offline, it worked perfectly well. But no, it seems like there is an update and it won't launch the game without this update done. It says there is no way to play offline because there is no information about I don't what and that's needed to play offline. Except I already did. It really pisses me off. I bought a game, it should be entirely independent to Steam ! I can't play offline because either way it's too crowded or the update needs to be done. If it's like this buying stuff on Steam, I won't do it anymore and I only started a few weeks ago!

My default has my credidentials saved. I dissconnected my net and tried it and it works, thanks.
