considering that AC3 is a pretty bland AC game even a 50% wouldn't be that good of a deal to be honest.
danvish 28 DIC 2012 a las 13:52
well, that is personal taste tbh... I bought it through a 3rd side company for about the same price it is now, and I find the game enjoyable. 25% is definitly a fair deal for it, wether you think it's worth it or not - again, different story :)

Of course everyone has a different price. Steam has just taught me to be patient and i'll get the same games I want to play for much cheaper and I just have to wait a few months. :)

To each their own I thought AC3 was quite enjoyable and the naval battles were awesome.

What I find really fascinating out of all of this is that FarCry 3 even though it's still full price is still making its way on the top 20 list and even taking over most sale prices, that tells you something. It has been doing this well for 3 or more days now, it's really interesting even though all these cheapskates are pissing and moaning that stuff isn't cheaper here with have a $50 title kicking a** still.

where do you get your info about tomorrows deals? link please :D (so I know for upcoming days as I bought the gods and kings pack today)
From a number of places and people I know, but with respect to GMG, they tend to post their daily deals a few days in advance at their blog here[blog.greenmangaming.com]. I also recommend joining this group to get alerted of various deals when they go live. By the way, I guess I got the day of the G&K sale slightly wrong- it'll be Sunday, not tomorrow.

Except it is.

You are not seeing the whole picture here. These are digital goods - that means that every sale (yes each and ever single one!) ultimately has a positive contribution margin, since the direct costs are essentially 0.
No. See AAPL for example. They sell overpriced fancy products with very high margins. Android is almost free, but except Samsung all others have small or negative margin.

Anyway, 2 x 60 = 12 x 10, isn’t it? So, if you think that somehow deeper discounts on some games at some competitors will undermine Valve/Steam...

Maybe Amazon, Steam and others do have set minimum prices after which they have to cover the differences themselves if they offer the games cheaper (which I highly doubt), but even then, a sale that didn't happen because of the high price ultimately means less profit for the publisher himself.
There is no doubt that if game is sold for the less price than agreed means seller has to cover difference. Why is GamersGate issuing refunds? Because they are in deep red, that’s why. Amazon is racking losses on those crazy deals, but they cover it from their other sales, isn’t that easy to grasp. Typical loss leader.

The price situation here on Steam this year will ultimately hurt the publishers. They are maybe willing to accept that in order to re-educate the customers and raise the general price level of games, but that changes nothing about the fact that during this sale they will be making less money than during last years sale.
This is your and others baseless statement. Do you have proof? No, you don’t. I already wrote many times - Valve and their parter publishers are running THIRD TIME this year same sale. According to people in Steam powered forums in summer, it was fail when it was happening. The same story was in autumn sale. You were all proven wrong. And now the same story. If Valve do that in spring sale, I’ll dig up every thread here in which you and similar said it was fail.

All what I see in various forums is that only pissed people are traders and hoarders.

I think the important part to consider in all of this is that a lot of these companies sell Steam tied games. Meaning you can buy a lot of these games from 3rd parties and still they still end up tied to your Steam library.

For instance, XCOM: Enemy Unknown.

Very true

The sales have been underwhelming pretty much all through out. The only thing Steam has going for it now are it's little indie titles that can be found for under $5.

All the sales seem to be repeats, indie titles found elsewhere in bundles cheaper and 25% off titles I don't want. At least they've got the indie titles for $5 though. Don't think Dead Pixel will be in a bundle soon!

A brief remark about Green Man Gaming's sale tomorrow (with source):

Tomorrow is Spec Ops for 75% off
Sunday is Civ 5 inc. expansion for 85% off

+1 I am so bored of the gimmicks. Maybe Valve should make some new games?

Also, calm down. Seriously, people, you're getting this worked up over a stupid video game holiday sale?

Right, lets quit buying games altogether, since it's so stupid .. I bet Valve would like that :>
Yeah, because that's exactly what I said, strawman.

Reading comprehension. Work on it.

I don't know if any of you have ever had to deal with poverty, homelessness, or starvation, but by the way most people are acting, I'm guessing not.

How about being thankful for all of the things that you do have, all of the good fortunes that you do have, all of the luxuries and comforts that you do have, rather than constantly complaining over something as minor as a Holiday Sale discount? If you're really wanting a further discount, go elsewhere or wait. But, no, let's throw a hissy fit and have a tantrum in the middle of the store.

Yes, I know that some people are merely disappointed about the sale and not irately angry. But. if you look at the vast majority of the posts, it's filled with whining about how they didn't get a super, uber discount for their favorite toy. If you have a problem, then it can be dealt with reasonably. Throwing around about how Valve ruined Christmas, etc. is stupid and obnoxious. It's also very myopic and selfish. Steam is a worldwide thing. Not everyone's Christian. For most of the world, New Years is a much bigger thing than Christmas, and the sale goes until Jan 4th. There's still time for some big sales, and even if they don't materialize, so what?

In short, if this is in any way devastating or upsetting for you, you have some really screwed up priorities and a skewed sense of entitlement.

But, hey, that's just, like, you know, my opinion, man.

Look, I don't know ANY country in the world that has a tradition of people pigging out on presents for themselfs on new years day. That is EXACTLY what we invented christmas for!

What I miss this time is the activities. I mean, we had just one badge that was super easy to get (my wife, who has two games on her account, and barely uses Steam managed to get it pretty much right off the bat). Last year you could win bigger discounts, and games, and the badge was a bit of a challenge, with multiple levels too.

You seem to misunderstand. The people that are complaining here are the ones that actually care about Steam. They are the ones that refuse to buy non-Steam games, and are appalled by having to go to Amazon and other places in order to buy Steam games.

Just because you, quite obviously, don't share this same level of affection doesn't make anyone else here stupid.

And coming back to my original answer - my guess is that Valve would prefer one of these "stupid" complaining users to a "reasonable" one like you that suggests buying stuff elsewhere any time of the day.

But so much for reading comprehension I guess..

You shouldn't hold loyalty to the Steam Store. Competition in the market is good for the consumer, and you should take every oppertunity to do what is good for you and your wallet when it comes to buying things.

If you want steam tied games and can buy steam tied games elsewhere, cheaper- there's no reason not to. It's not like Steam is coming to your holiday parties or anything.
