How long should a video game be in "Early Access"?
Some games like Phasmophobia will this year be out for 5 years while games like Project Zomboid will this year now be pushing 12 years.

Should there be a set standard like a time limit on how long games should be in early access?

They should be in EA as long as they need to. We don't need more rushed, unfinished games.

It just comes off an incompetent if the devs cant seem to finish a game and not have the audacity to turn off the Early Access panel.

That's why there is a big blue warning box to warn people, that game is not finished and might never be.

If we add arbitrary time limit we will get the exact same game, but without a warning. I am not sure how that would be any better.

No, it comes off as through.

Note: Games in Early Access are not complete and may or may not change further. If you are not excited to play this game in its current state, then you should wait to see if the game progresses further in development. Learn more

As long as the devs need it to be. Youre buying an as-is product.

If you dont want it dont buy it. Its that simple.

A. Polished Game
B. Rushed Game

Exclude early access games as you browse the store

No. Game development is nebulous, and never linear. Some games can be in development for over a decade.

I prefer games to be released when the devs determine they are finished and complete, not by some unrelated arbitrary deadline set by someone who had never written a line of code in their life.

If you want a finished and complete game, buy it when it is finished and complete.

No.

Sheesh. We're being spoiled rotten this month with the increase in EA whining.

You have a 16 year badge. You should know by now to use the search function. This goofball topic has been discussed extensively already. Another thread about it was not necessary.

It's not up to anyone but the developers how long they want to be in early access for. Some developers are just 1 dude who are self financing their project and have real life issues to tend to. If you don't want to support them then don't, no one is making you buy an early access game.

Also, it's really not a good idea to force an arbitrary time limit on creative people. What is it the kids say now? "Let them cook"? Yea.

on each early access games pages, there is a note what says: "Note: Games in Early Access are not complete and may or may not change further. If you are not excited to play this game in its current state, then you should wait to see if the game progresses further in development."

If you don't like early access games, best to avoid it. if you like early access games then buy it. Personally i found with early access games, not all of them, the few what i bought, have better quality gameplay then some of these AAA games what is rushed by companies. So i'll say these companies can take their time with early access
