HORIPAD Steam - gyro and extra buttons not working on Linux
Hi all, I purchased the HORIPAD for Steam recently because of the additional button support in Steam Input. I connected it up to my Steam Deck and everything worked out of the box.

However, when I connected it to my desktop running Linux (NixOS 24.11), it acts as a generic controller.

I have noticed a couple of differences in the way Steam represents the controller:

Controller name

  • Steam Deck: "Wireless HORIPAD For Steam"
  • Desktop: "HORIPAD STEAM"

Test Device Inputs window in Settings > Controller > Begin Test

  • Steam Deck shows "Device Support: HORI-70886b41c8ce (0x030d,0x01ab)"
  • Steam Deck shows and responds to M1, M2, L4, and R4 buttons
  • Desktop shows "Device Support: f0d-1ab-5be54b8 (0x0f0d,0x01ab)"
  • Desktop does not respond to M1 and M2 buttons and doesn't even show L4 and R4

Basic features on the controller still work, but I can't get the extra buttons or the gyroscope to register. It seems like the Steam client on my desktop is either detecting the controller incorrectly or using the wrong version of the controller support. Given that the Steam Deck runs a customized Linux image, I wonder if it's possible to find and fix the difference in controller support.

Has anyone else out there gotten the gyro or additional buttons to work on this controller?
